Stop Spam - A Creative Solution
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Tuesday, March 6th, 2007

Some months ago I decided to get serious about stopping spam. I did an awful lot of research into spam, where it comes from, why it profits the spammer so much and the evolving methods of both sending and combating spam.

The culmination of this work was my informational website, and the e-book which covers the more easy to implement ideas for stopping spam. I also started a mailing list to send tips and tricks for combating spam to those with a similar dislike of the annoyances that flood mailing boxes.

One of the more pleasant side effects of this entire process has been the emails I now receive from members on that list with comments, thanks and occasionally…suggestions like the one I’m about to outline.

One of my subscribers found that if two email addresses received the same spam messages, one would pick up some, and one would pick up the others, but neither picked up them all. The user had created a chain of forwarding so that all messages passed through several accounts, with the filters taking out the spam at each stop before passing them on.

Now I set up a small test using free online accounts from yahoo, gmail and hotmail to see how this worked, and early indications are it is quite effective, if a little time consuming to set up. It may well be that it works BETTER with online mail accounts than pop mail accounts - particularly if the technology used to filter the spam is Bayesian in nature. The very fact you are passing on emails from one account to another may trigger a ‘not spam’ result from the filter, thus letting all the spam all the way through the pipeline. That’s what I would expect, but it’s not what I observed in my testing. So for now at least, this is a solution that will go a long way to taking care of your spam problems.

If you have a creative method of stopping spam, Rob would love to hear about it. Join the mailing list on his website at STOPSPAMNOW.info or just visit and grab the free ebook on useful and effective ways to fight spam.

Understanding Anti Spyware
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Sunday, March 4th, 2007

Spyware software is something we are constantly hearing about all over the internet along with the threats and risks it posses to computer users. In order to combat spyware software you will need to install anti-spyware software.

Anti-spyware software programs work in two ways.

1. They can provide real time protection against the installation of spyware software on your computer. This type of spyware protection works the same way as that of anti-virus protection in that the anti-spyware software scans all incoming network data for spyware software and blocks any threats it comes across.

2. Anti-spyware software programs can be used solely for detection and removal of spyware software that has already been installed onto your computer. This type of spyware protection is normally much easier to use and more popular. With this spyware protection software you can schedule weekly, daily, or monthly scans of your computer to detect and remove any spyware software that has been installed on your computer. This type of anti-spyware software scans the contents of the windows registry, operating system files, and installed programs on your computer and will provide a list of any threats found, allowing you to choose what you want to delete and what you want to keep.

In recent years the two objectives of spyware removal software have been combined to provide a more powerful anti-spyware software program that allows you to detect and remove spyware and use real time protection on your computer. Just like anti-virus programs spyware removal programs also require frequent updates and the majority of anti-spyware software now come with this feature also.

Understanding what anti-spyware software does and what it should do will help you choose the right spyware protection for your computer. It is important to remember that if you have a computer and use it to access the internet then you are at risk from spyware software and you need to protect yourself.

What is a Spam Zombie?
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

A spam zombie is a computer that has been illegally accessed by a spammer and used as a medium to send spam. This is done without the consent or even the knowledge of the PC owner, and can cause many problems for the victims of this scheme.

Spammers depend on spam zombies to enable them to achieve anonymity and avoid detection, and the spam zombie often bears the brunt of the responsibility for the spam. This could lead to dire consequences, such as losing one’s internet service and being blacklisted and prevented from sending e-mails to certain people.

Becoming a spam zombie can be a devastating experience, especially for a small business owner, whose company can suffer from an undeserved, negative reputation as the result of having been targeted. Those who are used as spam zombies for pornography can be quite humiliated by the experience, to say the least, especially since the spammers send the e-mails to those in their address books, and it appears as if they themselves are sending the message.

Spammers can turn any PC into a spam zombie through sophisticated technology that derives information from a computer. This is the reason every computer must be equipped with ant-virus anti-spyware as well as spam protection. PC users can attract “dust” from surfing the net, which will give spammers a clue as to his or her information.

Hackers can get into unprotected PCs easily and are willing to sell their information to spammers at a good price. If your guard is down, your PC could be affected and one your PC is a spam zombie, you could be involved in someone else’s spam activities.

If you suspect that you have been made a spam zombie, contact your provider immediately. There are ways to negotiate your way out of blacklists if you have suffered unfair consequences of having been used as a spam zombie. This process can take some time to fix, but by discussing the situation with your provider, you may be able to clear your name.

Since the phenomenon of becoming a spam zombie is so common, providers are knowledgeable in dealing with this issue and clearing up problems that result from it. However, if you are a spam zombie, you can’t expect to recover your freedom overnight.

The most important thing to do to avoid becoming a spam zombie is to protect your computer. Make sure that your security is airtight and that no one can access your information. You will also want to invest in high quality spam blockers and filters, and even to obtain a whitelist that does not allow those who are not registered to enter your inbox.

Since the spam zombie is becoming a common feature of online life, more people are opting for stricter spam blockers, even if this means losing some of the spontaneity in receiving e-mails.

What is the Can Spam Act?
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Thursday, March 1st, 2007

The Can Spam Act was passed in 2003 and was one of the first laws to control spam. There is much controversy surrounding this law; many people believe it is a victory for e-mail users who are worried about risky spam, and others feel that it is a green light to certain spammers who want to foist aggressive advertisements on consumers.

The law is quite strict about illegal activities, but seems to allow loopholes for regular commercial business whose spam many e-mail users also find annoying. Still others greet the law as a first step in bringing the battle against spam into the public sphere.

The Can Spam Act stands for Controlling Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing Act. Those who must follow this law are all those who send commercial e-mail that promotes a service or product. Sending mass advertising is permitted as long as the information is not false or misleading and doesn’t involve any illegality.

The agencies with the jurisdiction to enforce the Can Spam Act are the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) and the DOJ (Department of Justice). These agencies can enforce criminal sanctions against those who violate this law. Federal and State agencies can also serve as watchdogs and to take care of spam problems.

Under the Can Spam Act, businesses are not allowed to use misleading information in their headers, and cannot use false headers as “hooks” to lure someone to open an e-mail that contains information that is different from that suggested by the header. The e-mail must give the recipient the opportunity to state that he or she does not want to receive any more e-mail promotions from that company.

Once the recipient has ordered the sender to stop sending e-mails, the sender is given 10 business days to cease from sending e-mails to that person. Under the Can Spam Act, it is illegal to sell e-mail addresses to others.

Activities that are strictly prohibited under the Can Spam Act include: using other computers as spam zombies, selling e-mail addresses from those who do not want to be contacted, labeling sexually explicit material as something else with a deceptive header or subject line, and harvesting the net for private information about individuals, including e-mails. These activities can lead to a $11,000 fine or jail time.

Many people were heartened by this law, while others were disappointed. The reactions were often opposite of those expected. Many spammers who simply promote their business with mass, unsolicited e-mails, but do not create spam zombies or engage in illegal activities, applauded the law as a legitimization of their business practices.

Many Californians who wanted to make all spamming illegal in their state were disappointed by the laws’ leniency regarded unsolicited marketing. However, even those who were disappointed saw it as a first step toward spam regulation.

Some wonder about the effectiveness of the Can Spam Act, and indeed, about the viability of attempting to regulate the net at all. Many people receive so many spam e-mails that they do not have the energy to report every case that appears.

Similarly, agencies are usually swamped with complaints, and can only deal with the most serious cases. Therefore, some believe that this is the reason the law only deals with dangerous spammers rather than with annoying ones. So, at least for now, it looks like spamming is here to stay.
