Spyware Remover - A Tool You Must Have
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

You have probably encountered an annoying and malicious set of programs that are more commonly known as ‘spyware’ if you use the Internet regularly. Spyware programs are capable of tracking Internet usage, collecting personal information, spawning ‘pop-up’ advertisements, and altering Internet browser settings. In general, spyware refers to the kinds of adware that are covertly installed onto your computer without your consent.

A computer’s performance can be severely affected by many spyware programs. They may even cause lock-ups and crashes. This is why you should use a spyware remover on a regular basis. This will help keep your computer working at its best. You can choose from a number of spyware removers available today.

I highly recommend ‘Spybot – Search and Destroy’, made by Patrick Kolla, and ‘Ad-Aware SE’ produced by Lavasoft. You can avail of these programs in their basic form for free. However, the more advanced forms of the programs are only available for a small fee. Nevertheless, the free versions can be effective in getting rid of the spyware that is infecting your computer.

A few years ago, Microsoft has jumped into the spyware remover business. It has released a free update for Windows XP, Windows 2003, and Windows 2000 called the ‘Windows AntiSpyware Beta’. It is still in its testing stage like all beta programs. Fortunately, is intended to be released as a free product for Window’s users sometime in the near future. The Microsoft spyware remover can detect and halt spyware as it is being installed. Other spyware removing programs are normally only able to catch spyware after it is already on your computer.

You also need to be wary when you are looking for a good spyware remover because many advertisements for spyware removing software are misleading. In fact, there are some phony programs that actually install spyware of their own if you use them. Avoid using any spyware remover that is advertised in a ‘pop-up’ ad. You should do some research before you use a spyware removing program. Take advantage of online communities and forums that discuss this protective type of software.

You should also realize that no single spyware remover is perfect. This means that you may find better success with some over others. Running more than one program to increase your chances of keeping your computer spyware free is good overall strategy. Run both Spybot and Ad-Aware at least once a week, and then install updates for these programs whenever they are available.

Consumers nowadays like to stay informed - especially when it comes to high-tech products like computer software. Reading a software review before you download is always recommended, as it’s important that you get a second opinion on the software that you’re interested in downloading. There’s many reasons why software reviews benefit you when you’re downloading software on the internet.

Software reviews will help you know what you’re downloading and what the best features are. Utilize them so you can get use the software more efficiently, instead of spending time figuring out how to use what.

When you read a review of the software before you download, you’ll be rest assured that someone has already downloaded and tried this product. Your computer will remain spyware free.

It’s generally a good idea to make sure you’re downloading your software from a trusted source. Spamware and other malicious software will have a tendency to appear on your computer when you are downloading software from unreliable and untrusted places on the web. Trusted sources not only provide a safe link to download, but also provide information and reviews on the software.

How To Speed Up Your PC.
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Sunday, January 28th, 2007

By Drew Pilton

One of the most annoying things I have noticed with personal computers is the noticeable drop off in speed and performance as the system gets older. When I first buy the system or when I have freshly installed Windows the whole system seems to zip along, programs open faster the system starts up faster. A few months of hard use later and I get more and more frustrated, I am forced to wait for everything as my PC grinds along apparently making hard work of the smallest task.

However, as I am about to explain there are reasons for this and there are ways to restore your PC to its former glory. All the time you are using your computer there are many tasks running in the background, things like task schedulers for various programs, animated desktops and icons, automatic update monitors and even worse many things that you don’t need or use at all. The longer you have your computer the more software applications you install, the more of these background tasks are running constantly while you work. All of these are competing for processor time. One extreme way to redress this is backup all you data, reformat your hard drive and install Windows from scratch, along with all your favourite applications. This is a very time consuming job and not for the faint hearted. There are some people who do this on a yearly basis, as this is a very efficient way of curing any Windows errors that have developed over time.

For those who would prefer not to go through this time consuming process here is a list of procedures you can follow regularly to keep your PC healthy and performing well.

Uninstall Unnecessary Software.
This is kind of obvious but many people don’t bother. As well as software which you purposely installed in the past and just don’t need any more, there are many applications which are installed without you asking for them at the same time as programs you wanted. Things like download managers, audio players, toolbars and other branded marketing gadgets that annoy the heck out of you. To uninstall these unwanted guests go to “Control Panel” then click “Add/Remove Software” and remove them.

Use Microsoft Disk Cleanup Utility.
When you install software or browse the internet your computer is storing “Temporary files” and “Temporary internet files”, these files are left on your PC but are no linger needed. Over time your PC will amass a huge amount of these files and Disk Cleanup Utility will clean these out as well as compacting older files which are still needed. To start Disk Cleanup go to “Start” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” > “Disk Cleanup”.

*Get Rid Of Viruses And Spyware.
Use a reputable antivirus application such as Norton Internet Securities to scan your PC. You can set most antivirus programs to perform a complete system scan at regular intervals or you can perform a scan manually if you prefer. Whichever way you choose this MUST be done regularly.

Use Windows Update.
Microsoft is constantly working on improvements and correcting flaws in there Windows operating system. Every now and then they will release update patches for your Windows system to improve performance, cure bugs, correct hardware compatibility problems and address any security issues which can be exploited by hackers. It is advisable to set windows to update automatically or to use Windows Update on a regular basis. To do this go to “Start” > “All Programs” > “Windows Update”, You must be connected to the internet for this.

Clean Your Registry.
Your registry stores important information about your computers set-up and configuration. Over time the registry gets cluttered up with registry entries that are no long relevant and theses entries can confuse windows or just slow it down considerably.
It is not recommended that you make changes to the registry yourself unless you know what your are doing, so to clean it properly you will need registry cleaner software such as Error Doctor. A registry cleaner will scan your registry for redundant entries and remove them. It is very simple to use and I recommend it. For a detailed description of the registry and how to clean it visit:-
http://www.registry-cleaner-magic.com/error-doctor/registry-info.htm

Defragment Your Hard Disk.
Over time and with regular use the data on your hard disk gets scattered across the disk and stored in fragments. This will make your hard disk work much harder trying to find and access each fragment of information. To correct this problem your hard disk needs to be defragmented regularly. To do this go to “Start” > “All Programs” > “Accessories” > “System Tools” > “Disk Defragmenter”.

Reduce Your Startup Selections.
Ever time you start your computer there are many items, which begin running during the startup process. Because all of these are drawing from your processor this can slow down the startup time considerably. Many of theses will remain running in the background while the PC is on. Some of these startup items are not required and so can be switched of without any problems, so improving startup time and overall performance. To manage the list of startup programs, click on “Start” > “Run“, and type MSCONFIG. Press Enter, and select the Startup tab. If you see items in the list you know you don’t need to run at startup time, Uncheck the box next each item and press Apply. If you are unsure about an item you can Uncheck it and reboot. If an application stops working just go back and recheck the box.

Buy More Memory.
As well as performing the above tasks at regular intervals you can make a huge difference to the speed of your computer by increasing the amount of memory it has.
When Windows is running it uses large amounts of memory to function. To avoid running out of physical memory in will use a portion of your hard disk as “virtual memory”. The problem is that virtual memory is much slower than physical memory. So the more virtual memory it needs the slower your PC will run. To reduce the amount of virtual memory used it is necessary to increase your physical memory as much as you can afford. Increasing your memory size is probably one of the best ways to speed up your computer.

Computer Security, Viruses And Threats.
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Computer Security, Viruses And Threats.

Today, many people rely on computers to do homework, work, and create or store useful information. Therefore, it is important for the information on the computer to be stored and kept properly. It is also extremely important for people on computers to protect their computer from data loss, misuse, and abuse. For example, it is crucial for businesses to keep information they have secure so that hackers can’t access the information. Home users also need to take means to make sure that their credit card numbers are secure when they are participating in online transactions. A computer security risk is any action that could cause loss of information, software, data, processing incompatibilities, or cause damage to computer hardware, a lot of these are planned to do damage. An intentional breach in computer security is known as a computer crime which is slightly different from a cybercrime. A cybercrime is known as illegal acts based on the internet and is one of the FBI’s top priorities. There are several distinct categories for people that cause cybercrimes, and they are refered to as hacker, cracker, cyberterrorist, cyberextortionist, unethical employee, script kiddie and corporate spy.
*The Hacker.
The term hacker was actually known as a good word but now it has a very negative view. A hacker is defined as someone who accesses a computer or computer network unlawfully. They often claim that they do this to find leaks in the security of a network.
*The Cracker.
The term cracker has never been associated with something positive this refers to someone how intentionally access a computer or computer network for evil reasons. It’s basically an evil hacker. They access it with the intent of destroying, or stealing information. Both crackers and hackers are very advanced with network skills.
*The Cyberterrorist.
A cyberterrorist is someone who uses a computer network or the internet to destroy computers for political reasons. It’s just like a regular terrorist attack because it requires highly skilled individuals, millions of dollars to implement, and years of planning.
*The Cyberextortionist.
The term cyberextortionist refers to someone who uses emails as an offensive force. They would usually send a company a very threatening email stating that they will release some confidential information, exploit a security leak, or launch an attack that will harm a company’s network. They will request a paid sum of money to prevent the threat from being carried out, a bit like black mailing.
*The Unethical Employee.
An unethical employee is an employee that illegally accesses their company’s network for numerous reasons. One could be the money they can get from selling top secret information, or some may be bitter and want revenge.
*The Script Kiddie.
A script kiddie is someone who is like a cracker because they may have the intentions of doing harm, but they usually lack the technical skills. They are usually silly teenagers that use prewritten hacking and cracking programs. *The Corporate Spy.
A corporate spy has extremely high computer and network skills and is hired to break into a specific computer or computer network to steal or delete data and information. Shady companies hire these type people in a practice known as corporate espionage. They do this to gain an advantage over their competition an illegal practice.

Business and home users must do their best to protect or safeguard their computers from security risks. The next part of this article will give some pointers to help protect your computer. However, one must remember that there is no one hundred percent guarantee way to protect your computer so becoming more knowledgeable about them is a must during these days.

When you transfer information over a network it has a high security risk compared to information transmitted in a business network because the administrators usually take some extreme measures to help protect against security risks. Over the internet there is no powerful administrator which makes the risk a lot higher. If your not sure if your computer is vulnerable to a computer risk than you can always use some-type of online security service which is a website that checks your computer for email and Internet vulnerabilities. The company will then give some pointers on how to correct these vulnerabilities. The Computer Emergency Response Team Coordination Center is a place that can do this. The typical network attacks that puts computers at risk includes viruses, worms, spoofing, Trojan horses, and denial of service attacks. Every unprotected computer is vulnerable to a computer virus which is a potentially harming computer program that infects a computer negatively and altering the way the computer operates without the user’s consent. Once the virus is in the computer it can spread throughout infecting other files and potentially damaging the operating system itself. It’s similar to a bacteria virus that infects humans because it gets into the body through small openings and can spread to other parts of the body and can cause some damage. The similarity is, the best way to avoid is preparation. A computer worm is a program that repeatedly copies itself and is very similar to a computer virus. However the difference is that a virus needs to attach itself to an executable file and become a part of it. A computer worm doesn’t need to do that, it copies itself to other networks and eats up a lot of bandwidth. A Trojan Horse named after the famous Greek myth and is used to describe a program that secretly hides and actually looks like a legitimate program but is a fake. A certain action usually triggers the Trojan horse, and unlike viruses and worms it will not replicate itself. Computer viruses, worms!
, and Tr
ojan horses are all classified as malicious-logic programs which are just programs that deliberately harm a computer. Although these are the common three there are many more variations and it would be almost impossible to list them. You know when a computer is infected by a virus, worm, or Trojan horse if your computer displays one or more of these things:

* Screen shots of weird messages or pictures appear.
* You have less available memory than you expected.
* Music or sounds plays randomly.
* Files get corrupted.
* Programs are files don’t work properly.
* Unknown files or programs randomly appear.
* System properties fluctuate.

Computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses deliver their payload or instructions through three common ways.

1 - When an individual runs an infected program so if you download a lot of things you should always scan the files before executing, especially executable files.
2 - When an individual boots a computer with an infected drive, so that is why it’s important to not leave removable media in your computer when you shut it down.

3 - When an unprotected computer connects to a network. Today, a very common way that people get a computer virus, worm, or Trojan horse is when they open up an infected file through an email attachment.

There are literally thousands of malicious logic programs and new ones come out by the numbers so that’s why it’s important to keep up to date with new ones that come out each day. Many websites keep track of this. There is no known method for providing 100% protection for any computer or computer network from computer viruses, worms, and Trojan horses, but people can take several precautions to significantly reduce their chances of being infected by one of those malicious programs. Whenever you start a computer you should have no removable media in the drives. This goes for CD, DVD, and floppy disks. When the computer starts up it tries to execute a boot sector on the drives and even if it’s unsuccessful any given virus on the boot sector can infect the computer’s hard disk. If you must start the computer using removable media for any reason, such as when the hard disk fails and you are trying to reformat the drive make sure that the disk is not infected.

How can you protect your computer?
The best way to protect your computer from any of the above is by using good quality internet securities software. Purchasing this from a reputable security company is recommended to ensure that your software is kept up to date with the most recent virus signatures. If you are not up to date an unrecognised virus will not be stopped by the software. A full security package will protect you from viruses, Worms, Trojan horses, keyloggers and will detect when a hacker is attempting to hack into your computer and prevent them from gaining access when you are online or connected to a network. It is not advisable to use a free antivirus service as these do not provide adequate protection and are a false economy. Recommended internet security software companies are:- Norton, McAfee and others.
