I would like to welcome you to the ‘id-protect project’. Having worked in the information security industry for the past 10 years I identified a niche market for providing a security service to consumers around the hot topic of identity theft.
The service idea had to be based around non-computer savvy people being firstly being able to understand why they were at risk of identity theft and what they could do to protect themselves. Gathering this information took several months. From the vast catalogue of security products, tools and services advertised on the internet, we would provide a selection to our members.
In March of this year (2006) the idea was born. www.id-protect.co.uk established itself within a 6 month period as an established brand and sizeable daily/weekly/monthly traffic. The site itself provides news, a unique step-by-step programme, a quiz and an extensive catalogue of tools, products and services to download.
Best all this is provided to the consumer all for FREE. We make no money from members only commission from the supplier of the tools,products and services. The main aim of the project was and still is to provide up-to-date news on identity theft, guide users on how to protect their identity (using the step-by-step programme), identify scams and more as well as build the computer and non-computer product download catalogue.
We understand that you can ‘Google’ for some of this information. However, this does not provide the consumer a ‘one-stop shop’ for awareness and understanding what they need to do. What we mean is this…we guide the consumer (member) through the step-by-step programme, with awareness and then let them decide which products, tools or services they may want to download (we do provide a number of choices, based around useability and price).

If you are an identity theft victim, the website also provides an area for you to recover your identity. It is a very simple process to follow and should be a useful information portal for those of us who have been victims of identity fraud.
