Myspace And Parental Responsibility
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

By CD Mohatta

Myspace is a success story on the Internet. At the same time it is being seen with fear by many parents. They feel that their children may get involved with shady people on myspace. What is the truth?

Internet has search engines. Every body that has a connection can bypass all firewalls and barriers and search for any kind of material on the net. The teenagers can always reach adult websites and nothing can prevent them. This is true with every website. On myspace teenagers go to make friends. In the beginning they share very few or no personal details. As the friendship grows the shady characters persuade the teens to share more personal details and arrange to meet them offline. Who is responsible for this- Myspace or the parents? It is the parents who tell and inform their children about behavior in the real world but forget to do so for the virtual world.

Simple instructions can protect the children.

Never show your real photograph. Never believe what any body says on the Internet. You do not know that person at all. Under no circumstances give any personal detail neither in your profile or while messaging or in the chat. Keep your identity anonymous.

Parents need to tell this to their children repeatedly. This applies not only to myspace but any website that has chat room, forum or any method of coming in contact with other unknown people.

Hackers Target Online Brokerage Firms In Latest Cyber Scam
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

By Eva Gibson

Every time the public thinks it has a handle on cyber crime, hackers come up with something new to throw into the mix. Reports this week name the newest targets for cyber criminals: online brokerage houses, which have lost millions of dollars in an online fraud that is apparently the latest in the world of hacker couture.

Reports from online broker E-Trade Financial Corp state that the company has been compromised by hacker attacks originating from crime rings in Thailand and Eastern Europe. The hackers recently cost E-Trade clients up to $18 million through tactics that include hacking into customer accounts and making unauthorized stock trades. The scam starts with the hackers installing keyloggers either on a victim’s unguarded personal computer or on a public computer station, such as those found in a library or hotel. The keyloggers are used to gain access to a customer’s brokerage account, at which point the hacker will wait until the customer logs off, log himself in with the victim’s user name and password, and use the account to sell the customers existing stock shares.

The money made from the sale of those stocks is used to purchase microcap stocks, which are low value stocks that are inexpensive and usually are not traded in large volume. The purchase drives up the value of this stock, shares of which the hacker has already bought at a lower price through another account. The hacker is then able to sell his own stock and make a profit. Meanwhile, the victim is left with an account full of unwanted, low value stock and has lost any money earned from their previous portfolio.

E-Trade and other companies affected by the scam, such as DT Ameritrade, plan to reimburse the money their customers lost, though the companies are not required by law to do so. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are investigating the issue, and many online brokers are stepping up to the plate and offering customers information on in!
ternet s
ecurity and access to security software.

In the spirit of this gesture, the E-Trade Financial Corp website lists some tips that can help you protect your account and personal information both on and off their site:

  • Use anti-virus software.
  • Use a personal firewall package.
  • Use current versions of software and operating systems (and keep them patched/updated).
  • Secure your wireless network.
  • Use your own computer.
  • Choose strong passwords and change them regularly.
  • Use a unique ID and password.
  • Protect yourself against identity theft.
  • Use the strongest encryption available.
  • Empty your temporary Internet files or cache folder when finished.
  • Test your system for vulnerabilities.
  • Be prepared for problems.

Additionally, it is recommended that online traders avoid trading or checking brokerage accounts from public computers and avoid opening or clicking links in any emails sent from an online broker, as the email could easily be part of a phishing scam. If you think you have been a victim of online trading fraud, contact the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center at http://www.ic3.gov/.

The Top Ten Spyware And Adware Threats That Exists To Harm Your Computer
(presented by www.spyware-remover-free.net - spyware remover)

Saturday, October 28th, 2006

By Tim Gorman

If you have a computer, then chances are you have either spyware or adware lurking on it somewhere. Estimates suggest that 90% of computers are infected with malicious software (malware) of some type. They take over your computer, infest it with pop-ups and other junk, or even worse, steal your private information. Although there are countless types of spyware and adware, these are the ones generally considered the biggest threats to your computer.

Gator - This adware is designed to track the sites you surf and so get a picture of your online interests. Once it has enough data, it starts to bombard you with everything from banner ads to pop-ups on similar subjects, hoping to grab your interest and attention. Generally your computer gets infected with Gator when you share files through Kazaa or other means, or when you download freeware.

n-Case - Another type of adware, which subjects you to an endless flood of pop-up ads. Downloading freeware from online sites is the way your computer usually gets infected with this malware.

PurtyScan - This is particularly sneaky adware. First it displays a pop-up ad on your computer offering to detect any pornographic content on your computer, with an offer to remove it. If you click on the ad, however, you end up a website which then infiltrates your computer with even more spyware and adware.

Transponder - Similar to Gator, in that it ‘watches’ your online behavior, then bombards you with ads that this malware decides are relevant.

CoolWebSearch - This malware is certainly not cool, but malicious. The first step is that it hijacks your Internet settings and web page, and then redirects you to another web page of its own. As you can imagine, that website is full of more adware and spyware, waiting to get into your computer.

Internet Optimizer - You could almost call this piece of malware a hacker. It takes control of your home page, and also any other web pages you visit. The final step is to pass you on to its own we!
b page,
so that it can download other malware onto your computer.

Perfect KeyLogger - This malware is a tool for hackers. It can record your keystrokes, which makes it simple to find out private information such as credit card numbers, passwords and other private details. These are then passed on to the hacker.

ISTbar/Aupdate - Although it pretends to be a toolbar, this is still malware. It’s a form of spyware, and it operates by continually displaying pornographic images and pop-up ads on your computer, which is both embarrassing and annoying. It also takes control of your Internet settings and web page.

TIBS Dialer - If you access the Internet via a dial-up connection, this malware will hijack your phone modem and then transfer you to various websites full of pornography.

Keen Value - This malware starts out by tracking your online behavior, analyzing every website you visit. It also collects your personal information if you fill out any forms online, and then bombards with endless advertisements, many of which link through to websites full of dangerous malware.
